Zero

At the box office, Zero was not a hero...

Zero is a 2018 Bollywood romance-comedy, directed by Anand L Rai. Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Anushka Sharma play the movie’s main characters. In Aanand L Rai’s Zero, SRK will play a dwarf, and Anushka will play a scientist with physical disabilities. The movie is produced by Gauri Khan, Aanand L Rai and Karuna Badwal under the banner of Red Chillies Entertainment and Colour Yellow Productions Pvt. Ltd., and is distributed by the same entity. Manu Anand has wielded the camera for Zero.

Zero Story: Wearing his heart on his sleeve, Meerut native Bauua Singh (Shah Rukh Khan) is a man with vertical challenges. He develops feelings for Aafia (Anushka Sharma), a scientist with cerebral palsy. Their unusual love tale takes place in space as well as in the US and India. It encounters many interesting difficulties along the road as well.

Zero Review: A brilliant idea requires an equally brilliant execution, yet not every great story receives the attention it deserves. The notion of Zero’s story is interesting and motivating, never holding back in its outrageousness. This relationship between Meerut and Mars flirts with science fiction, interplanetary travel, and, more locally, traditional themes like abandoned and passionate affection. As a result, the movie attempts to convey too many concepts and falls short in achieving any of them. While there are some stunning images and beautiful moments, the most passes by like a shooting star.

The story opens in Meerut, where Bauua Singh wastes his father’s (Tigmanshu Dhulia) money because he is constantly fascinated with Bollywood actress Babita Kumari (Katrina Kaif). Despite his immaturity and pride, he is extremely confident despite his height. When Bauua accidentally enters the highly skilled scientist Aafia’s life, everything drastically changes. Because of their differences—she has cerebral palsy and he is vertically challenged—a connection between equals is made possible by their shared weaknesses. Aside from their physical difficulties, they have completely different personalities, which ultimately intensifies the drama in the story. Drama is increased when Bollywood star Babita Kumari enters Bauua’s life at some point. The first part of the movie is dedicated to setting up this unusual romance. Even if the concepts are original and noteworthy, the storyline doesn’t quite tie the story’s arc together. The Zero storyline doesn’t interest or disappointment you.

In the second half, the ideas get much bolder. Bauua’s romantic tale goes on a thrilling journey to Mumbai, where it meets Bollywood. Here, B-town celebrities make unexpected debuts. One of the standout moments is undoubtedly when Salman and Shah Rukh unite in the song Issaqbaazi. Next, the narrative proceeds on a mission inspired by Mars and visits the United States. This is where the characters’ and the movie’s graph just do not add up. Although Himanshu Sharma’s writing has its moments, it falls short of being the epic love story that it wants to be. After quickly launching out of orbit for two hours and twenty-five minutes, the movie most surely feels too long drawn.

The positive side is that the the characters, directed by Aanand L Rai, never allowed their physical difficulties to break their spirit or weaken their courage. Shah Rukh is a skilled romantic actor, and he portrays charm and intensity in this scene. It’s not complicated. He does a fantastic job portraying the tiny but charming Bauua in a plot that heavily relies on special effects. While having a tiny role, Katrina Kaif completely steals the show as a conflicted and devastated Bollywood star. Regretfully, despite the amazing potential of Anushka Sharma’s role, the actress’s use of expressions to depict the disability isn’t always consistent or convincing.
